Portia Jones, 77, of Martinsburg, passed away on July 17, 2022, at her home.
Born on June 25, 1945, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of Charles Taper, Jr., and Pauline “Adams” Taper.
Portia dedicated 40 years of her life to working as a housekeeper and caregiver for Sarah Steptoe and her family.
She is survived by her son, Anthony Jones (Susan); seven grandchildren: Kenneth Scott Gray, Adrian Jones, Amber Curry, Terrell Jones, Raquel Crossley, Selina Mann, and Jasmine Mann; and four great-grandchildren: Dominic Gray, Marion Gray, Derrick Gazawi, and Cameron Crossley. Portia is also survived by her nieces Tori Clark, Tanya Harrison, and Taneisha Dashmyagmar; nephew Austin Crawford IV; great-nephew Nicholas Crawford; stepsister Patricia Hosby-Bailey; numerous cousins, and a dear family friend, Judy Joseph.
Portia was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Jackson Jones, Jr., and one sister, Charlene Creamer.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Brown Funeral Home at 11:00 AM, officiated by Reverend Hall and Reverend Robert Jackson.
Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Austin Crawford, Nicholas Crawford, Paul Mason, Aaron Jones, Patrick Banks, and Ryan Banks, with Steve Jones, Ronnie Jones, and Joey Weaver serving as honorary pallbearers. Dennis Johnson will play the keyboard during the service.
