Sarah Elizabeth Walker, 96, of Kearneysville, WV, passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2022, at Hospice of the Panhandle.

Born on March 2, 1926, in Kearneysville, she was the daughter of the late John Roper and Nannie Roper (Fox). Sarah was married to John J. Walker, Sr.

Sarah dedicated her career to housekeeping at the VA Medical Center and domestic work.

She was an active member of Mt. Zion UMC, participating in various groups such as the Methodist women, usher board, Rainbow Mass Choir, Marshall Holley Post American Legion, Bethel Chapter No. 38 O.E.S., Jolly Fifteen, and Kiwanis. She and her husband John were honored with the 35th Star by former Gov. Joe Manchin.

She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Diggs (Harlan); sons, John J. Walker, Jr., Terry L. Walker (Margaret), and Michael T. Walker (Vicky); six grandchildren, Melissa, Jeffrey (Samantha), John (Kristen), Philip, and Kevin; and seven great-grandchildren, Sydney, Destiny, Tyren, Isabella, Brooklyn, Rylan, and Kylan.

Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers John and James, sisters Celena Carter, Francis Grantham, Mary Mason, and Velda Brown, and one grandchild, Terry Lee.

Sarah cherished time with her family and friends. She enjoyed church activities, gardening, and family trips, and had a special love for spoiling all kids.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hospice of the Panhandle.

A Funeral Service will be held at Brown Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 19, 2022, with Pastor Ed Hall officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Arrangements are made by Brown Funeral Home.
